Matt has written this little post about things that he found to be different in Canada. The thing I found particularly funny is that he says “Oh, and milk comes in plastic bags. WHAT THE HELL CANADA?!”
I am SOOO glad that this happens in at least one other country. Since I left South Africa, I have been worried that my home country is the only one with this strange practice. At least now I have a second milk-in-bags home-from-home in Canada.
If you think about it, it’s probably a lot less wasteful than massive hard plastic cartons!

I have seen milk in bags here in the UK … years ago … you got a special jug from the milkman that the bags fitted into.

Canada has been doing it since the ’70s (maybe even sixties). As Rachel noted, you just put them in the jug and you’re good to go.

Yes, when I was a young whipper-snapper we used to be able to get milk in bags, and the appropriate plastic “jug” in which to place this bag.
Even now, I can have a good chuckle at the memory of the day my friend and I laughed ourselves senseless because the milkman placed the bag in such a way that my friend’s father backed over it in his car and it exploded in milky splendour 🙂
