I got a very similar ‘eBay’ mail into my GMail account not too long ago. I’m extemely impressed by the detection, I only wish I had time to try and work out how it works.
As impressive as the big warning is, it’s also worth noting that GMail will strip out the suspicious URIs from the message body, so even a click happy user wont find their way to the dastardly site. I was curious with mine and only after clicking “Show Original” was I able to extract the false host name and have a cheap laugh at the offending page.
The page went something like “Enter your EBay username and password”, “Enter your paypal username and password”, “enter your home address”, “enter your credit card number”.
It makes me worry that someone’s parents somewhere could’ve fallen for that.
