I suppose I’m probably asking for even more spam-dumping by blogging about spam, but I couldn’t let the irony of spam advertising spam filters pass.

I am now getting comment spam pointing at non-existent webpages. Why would somebody do that?

Yes I’m getting a lot of that too. I think it might be preparation spam — spam the URLs now when those being spammed can’t check the webpage content (and might assume the site is still being set up, since they are people’s name) and once sufficiently “out there” the site can be updated to be drugs/porn/whatever
Maybe I’m too cynical tho

That’s one possibility. Another is that they’re toe-in-the-water messages to see which blogs allow unmoderated spam (see my post on http://www.benhammersley.com/weblog/2004/11/09/new_comment_spam.html ).
