Part of me wants to try something a bit different like QNX Neutrino or Hurd or Darwin, but then I wonder if it would just be easier to use Linux. And then I read about persevering in the face of adversity and wonder if I'll just procrastinate for a little bit longer... I felt I ought to as a computer scientist, but it just didn't work for me (apart from a few basics) I'm glad that you've had problems too (well, no I'm not - but I'm glad I'm not the only one). I suspect the best technique for installing it is "have a Linux guru close to hand for when something inexplicably cocks up".
