For example, I once spent every evening for about a week making just one graph - the first one in "The Economics of Interface Transportation" - and much of a weekend making the figures for "Maps of Physics". And, yes, I know that very few people have an SVG plugin so they can actually see these images, but nevertheless it matters to me to make them good.
