Have found some interesting things surfing on my home PC in the past few days:
- Click on this link and you could win some funky Onion news book from Blogstakes
- How to Create a Favicon from PhotoMatt, which I thought I had blogged before but appears to be on of the links lost to the corrupted harddrive
- Hijacked PC’s responsible for a third of all spam sent
- The Google Filter Fiasco — interesting take on the recent changes and their impact
- The next big security threat to watch out for? Interstellar hackers : “OMG aliens have taken over my computer and are sending spam to millions of people on how to increase their tentacle size!”
- Radio broadband for communities that BT will not expand their service to. Nice to see that there are options for people in the smaller villages as well
- On a related note, some of the links above are from the great monthly newsletter that our broadband provider, Zen sends me once a month. They’re great.
- Network theory being used for targetted immunisation as well as things like breaking up terrorist networks. Remove certain key people (hubs) and you can stop the spread of infection or bring down an entire ring, apparently. Looks like quite an interesting bit of research
- Domestic terror threats largely ignored by the press in the US — is this because the people or the politicians wouldn’t want to read about it?
- Strange strange hobbit slash — not particularly work-unsafe, but possibly you should think twice about this one
- 10 Tech Trends for 2004 via Anil Dash
- Web Development Best Practices from the Apple Developer pages
- Hilarious rant about carb-counting bagels
- The Accidental Dentist
- I always hated interactive fiction, but this is a fascinating insight into why people with autism enjoy them so. I had never thought of them like that at all. Thanks to 0xDECAFBAD for a great new view on the world and abilities to extract data from one’s surroundings

Hackers from outer space ate my brain
It has been an uncommonly slow time for crank news. I remember seeing at least one Z grade movie that exploited this fear. The article itself is only mildly silly but will surely inspire zany items that will find their…
